When I moved to into this house there was mold in the bathroom. I figured I could get some Tilex and just remove the mold. It does not seem to have worked. The black mold is still there. How do I destroy the mold once and for all? I’ve heard I can use bleach and water or ammonia and water. Which is best? Also, does it matter how long the mold has been there? We rent and don’t know how long the mold has been there. We’ve been here for almost one year. Since it’s been so long, does that mean we just have to live with it? Please help!
i work in construction ,and have seen this alot.my first thing is YOU RENT"talk to the landlord as black mold causes serious respitory problems.flu like symptoms.kids unusually sick for no reason, ect.if the land lord blows you off call the health department in your area.this is serious.and illegal for him not to fix.do some research on black mold here on the net,and its affects.now the answer, you can sometimes get rid of it if you use the bleach and water ,and some products like clr will do it too.but if this is reacuring all the time the shower wall boards need to be replaced sealed and caulked.to prevent this myself on a small scale,i spray my shower walls with spray silicone.and let dry.after cleaning.i have done this for years.but this only stops mold from being able to start in a already clean shower.if you have this all around the edge of the tub,and near all the joints, and caulk areas .it is actually behind the boards, growing around from behind.and will never really leave.without replacing . could have been there for years? get informed .its your health.good luck to you.and read up on black mold and its effects.

.Never mix bleach with ammonia it is toxic and could kill you. Bleach and water is probably the best. It will be tough to get the old mold off. Use a cleaning brush to help remove the mold. Make sure you have good ventilation while cleaning. Hope this helps.References :
I don't know maybe if you cleaned it more often you wouldn't get this problem.References :
you can scrub as hard as you can or you can watch commercials and get one of those that show you how!References :

I'm surprised that the Tilex didin't work. Did you try the soap scum one? I use that for my bathroom and works, although I don't have mold. Did you use it with the Mr.Clean magic eraser too? Maybe your landlord should replace that shower, He should be ashame of his self for renting the place knowing that the shower is in distasteful condition. Try the magic eraser. I had doubts about it but I tried it anyway and to my surprised it really works. Spray the Tilex soap scum-foam side on the nozzle on the WET shower, let it penetrate for a few minutes, then scrub it with the magic eraser, you may need to spray a little more of the Tilex then scrub away. Let me know if it works. Good luck and Merry Xmas, Nina JReferences : I use these myself and love them…..and if that doesn't work then I would call the landlord……I just did reach and that needs to be address ASAP. Black mold is a hazard….
I subleased an apartment and there was black mold in the grout of my shower when I moved in.I used clorox cleaning spray and it was gone.References :
Bleach!!References : had it before
Call the city inspectors if your renting, the landlords are supposed to take care of that. If it is your house, call the professionals. You can die from black mold.References :
hi hydrogen peroxide actually kills the mold and helps clean it away. spray it on, let it sit for a bit then rinse. If it's old it may take a few treatments. If it's int eh grout, you may need to replace the grout. Andjust becasue the mold is black doesn't mean it's the black mold that can hurt/kill you.References :
Black mold can be tricky to treat and even harder to permanently get rid of. If the Tilex isn't working, I'd say your best bet would be 1/2 cup bleach mixed with 2 cups hot water in a plastic spray bottle. Wear gloves to protect your hands and make sure the room is well-ventilated. Spray generously and rub mold with a dampened cloth.
To keep the mold away, make sure the bathroom has a free airflow (ie, open door or window) for at least 45 mins after showers/baths are taken. If possible, keep a window or door cracked while showering to help keep the steam from building up and causing your walls to "sweat" which is the perfect environment for mold to appear and grow.
Take a picture of the mold as is, and then another after each treatment you try. Have proof of what you've done (have someone record you cleaning it, save reciepts for cleaning products, save the empty product bottles). If the mold was there when you moved in, it should have been the landlord's job to get rid of it as black mold can be hazardous to your health.
If you end up having to take it to your landlord, explain the problem and the solutions you have tried (keep proof, as above) and don't be afraid to be firm about it. If he/she is uncooperative, visit http://www.badlandlords.info/ and click on your state to find more resources.
Good luck to you!References :
Bleach and a toothbrush. Then get white swimming pool paint and a small brush and paint the areas where the mold was so it can't come again.References :
