At least once in every adult’s life he or she should start his own garden. There is a lot of enjoyment involved in the growing of and caring for plants. Even if you have zero experience with gardening you should be able to grow at least a few simple plants in your first garden. There are so many different types of information available today that even brand new gardeners should be able to learn how to grow a new garden. Obviously gardening is not simple. Oftentimes it involves a lot of work! The following are some tips that you can use if you are thinking about starting your own garden.
Don’t let your seedlings ever get totally dry. It is true that there are a lot of different types of plants that thrive in dry soil conditions but that doesn’t mean that you can let them dry out completely. All seedlings need water to drink. You don’t have to create mud of course but you do need to provide a little water if you want the seedlings to survive. The level of water you will need to give to your plants is dependent up on the types of plants that you want to grow. Before you put your seedlings into your garden plot learn everything you can about how much water they need and how often they need it. Drying out and drowning are both bad.
Most of gardening is nothing more than sticking to a schedule. Over time you will figure out a schedule and eventually you will just know what needs to be done without having to think about it. Over time you will learn to recognize weeds, signs of nutrient deficiency, signs of dryness and signs that more compost should be spread. Let yourself figure out your own gardening schedule and then just stick to it. Many new gardeners fail to keep their gardens alive because they either don’t realize how much work is needed or they decide they don’t care about how much work is needed to keep a garden plot healthy.
Don’t spend a bunch of money on tools from the garden department just because you see them by the register. Begin with the basics: a hose, a rake and a spade and then let your collection grow naturally from there. The more you work outside the more you will learn about which tools you actually use a lot and which tools you almost never use at all. Try to resist buying a bunch of things that the garden department clerk tries to convince you that you need but that you probably won’t ever use. You might wind up tossing a bunch of money away on tools that you won’t ever use!
Lots of grown men and women view gardening the same way little kids view playing outside. Many people insist that working in the garden is a fantastic way to work through most of the stress that they feel after the end of a long work day. Other people say that working in the garden is just a fun time for them. Some people garden because they like being able to save money that would have been spent on veggies and fruits by growing their own. There are lots of different reasons people have for planting gardens. Just remember, even though you will have to work hard in your garden you will also get lots of joy from your garden.
